LABS ON THE BAY – QIU celebrates their first ground-breaking ceremony. The traditional Shinto Jichinsai (地鎮祭) ceremony took place the 30th of March 2022, in Tokyo.

The project is designed as the heart of Tech and Science incubation in the Shinkiba District, the bay area of Tokyo. The new building typology, tenanted lab and office, is set to become a benchmark for future development with its generous internal and external informal meeting spaces to stimulate interaction between the start-ups and incubate innovation.

Our vision for the Tokyo Bay Area is to create a vibrant new urban district by the sea by opening the waterfront to the public, to inspire future development of the neighbouring sites to create a continuous green waterfront boulevard linking to the public plazas in front of the buildings.

LAB ON THE BAY · Ground-breaking Ceremony

The Jichinsai ceremony is an important ritual before commencing construction in Japan, to pray for safety of the workers during the construction project, smooth completion of the construction, and prosperity for the future users of the building. The ceremony was organised by the general contractor, Takenaka Corporate, and all stakeholders including the Client, Architects, Contractors participated in the event.

‘We were humbled by the Jichinsai ceremony. It was a fantastic event for all the stakeholders to gather at waterfront site to celebrate the achievement thus far. It further strengthened our collaboration to ensure smooth continuation of the project.’
